Overseas Student Health Cover

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a compulsory health insurance for international students. All students must have this cover in place for the whole total duration of their visa. This means you may not only have health cover for some parts of your stay or for just a few months or just one year.  Your whole duration of your study must be covered. For example, if your study is exactly for 24 months (2 years), but your OSHC may cover an extra few months longer.

Your visa is granted according to the OSHC cover period other than your course end date.

Your OSHC can be arranged by your education provider or by yourself (or through the agent), as long as you are covered.

There are many options in choosing the insurance provider in Australia which provides the OSHC service. You can choose whichever one at your own discretion or choice. Premium rates may vary from provider to another.

The following table shows roughly how much your OSHC premium will be for 12 months.

Duration Single Couple Family
12 months A$692 A$4,480 A$9,763

A single international student will need to pay approximately A$57.67 for one month health cover.
