Student Visa Conditions
All student visas come with some conditions, which student must comply with and follow.
When your student visa is granted, you must check what conditions are attached to your visa so you know more about what you should do and what should not do while you are holding a student visa.
The following are the mostly commonly seen visa conditions that are attached to the student visa:
8105—WORK RESTRICTION
You must not work in Australia before you start your course. This is very important. Do not start to work until your course starts.
8104- WORK RESTRICTION: 40 HOURS A FORTNIGHT
- You must not work in Australia for more than 40 hours a fortnight when your course of study is in session. However you may work full time during school breaks.
- Family members of students studying a master degree course or a PhD course can work unlimited hours once the primary student visa holder has started their course.
8202 – MEET COURSE REQUIREMENTS
- You must remain enrolled in a registered course with the right CoE on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS);
- You maintain satisfactory attendance in your course and course progress for each study period as required by your education provider;
- You must remain enrolment in a registered course that is the same Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level or higher for which the Home Affairs granted your student visa, unless changing from AQF Level 10 to level 9.
8501—MAINTAIN HEALTH INSURANCE
Overseas student must maintain adequate health insurance for the whole duration of your stay in Australia. The most commonly seen health cover is Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). This OSHC can either be organized by your education provider or by yourself.
