SID 482 Visa Criteria
Subclass 482 Visas and Common Features
Skills in Demand (SID) visa subclass 482 or “SID 482 visa” was recently announced on 7 December 2024 to replace the former TSS subclass 482 visa. This visa allows Australian employers to sponsor a person from overseas to work in their business temporally in Australia in order to address the local labour shortages.
Australian employers or nominators need to demonstrate that they can’t find appropriate or suitable workers in Australian local labour market before they can nominate and sponsor a foreign person.
SID visa has the following features:
- The new SID 482 visa has three (3) streams:
1) Specialist Skills stream
2) Core Skills stream
3) Labour Agreement stream - The nomination can be up to 4 years with pathway to PR;
- Employers must pay a training contribution charge called Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy.
- Employer must meet the Labour Market Testing (LMT) for a SID nomination;
- Salary level for SID visa. The nominator must meet the minimum salary requirement to pay the nominee called the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) . The current threshold set by the Department of Home Affairs (as of 1 July 2024) is A$73,150, plus superannuation.

- Applicants must have a mandatory positive skills assessment unless exempted under certain circumstances.
Eligibility for SID 482 visa
- Nominated position must be in the Core Skills Occupation List ;
- Visa can be granted up to 4 years duration and can be renewed onshore unlimited times; Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years;
- IELTS requirements: Overall 5.0 with no band lower than 5.0; OR PTE 36 with each band 26;
- Permanent residency pathway available;
- The nominee must have at least 1 year relevant work experience in the same position or closest position before they apply for this visa;
- People from certain countries may exempt from skills assessment;
- No age limit;
- Employer must meet the Labour Market Testing (LMT) before nominating a position;
- LMT may not be required where Australia has waived this requirement under its International Trade Obligations (ITOs);
- Employer must alos meet the Australian Market Salary Rate (AMSR) in additiona to meetng the TSMIT.
